The 14th of May was another troublesome day for Facebook and its companies. It was revealed (and also announced by Facebook themselves) that a security flaw in the app’s software allowed attackers to bypass WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption and secretly install spyware onto users’ devices. WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook, said the attack targeted a “select number” of users and was orchestrated by “an advanced cyber-actor”. They add: “WhatsApp encourages people to upgrade to the latest version of our app, as well as keep their mobile operating system up to date, to protect against potential targeted exploits designed to compromise information stored on mobile devices, the company said in a statement. What to do? Facebook did advise all its users to simply uninstall the app and re-install it or update to the latest version, claiming most users had already done so. The breach arose from the fact that the software suffers from a “buffer…

For people actively in the cryptocurrency industry (like ourselves as we have many such clients on our portfolio at CFM Group such as My Hardware Wallet and Crypto Tax Helper), the battles with Facebook (subsequently Instagram) advertising, boosting and even posting specific images is a longstanding one. Nonetheless, in a twist a few months ago, it became widely spread that Facebook itself was seeking investors for its new cryptocurrency offering and platform. The Wall Street Journal reported new potential details about Facebook’s long-awaited cryptocurrency plans. The company is reportedly seeking dozens of business partners, including online merchants and financial firms, in an effort to extend the reach of its blockchain-based marketplace. Facebook’s potential cooperates and partners were being asked to pitch into an investment fund, valued at approximately $1 billion, that would serve as backing for Facebook’s coin and mitigate the wild, speculative swings that make cryptocurrencies like bitcoin hard to spend.…

Last week, Twitter released an update that finally allows you to do more with retweets. Whereas before users only had the option to add plain text alongside a retweet, now Twitter users have the option to add photo, video and GIFs to a retweet. Although it seems like only a minor upgrade, this offers great potential for marketing through the site. The feature went live last week on iOS, Android and Twitter’s mobile site, though it’s still yet to be functional on desktop. It’s common practice for Twitter users to retweet with a comment – so expanding the retweet system to include a wider range of media will surely result in an increase of non-text based content. This is much more favorable for businesses in regards to advertising opportunities. The upgrade has been demanded by Twitter users for a long time, and it seems Twitter has finally listened. In addition…

Page speed is a measurement of how long it takes to fully load the content of your page, and is something many people overlook when creating a website. However, with statistics that tell us all it takes is a slight delay of anything over 400 milliseconds before a visitor clicks away, it’s now more important than ever to understand the metrics that go into creating a fast and speedy website. Page Speed Impacts on SEO As well as slow page speeds deterring potential clients away from your site, a poor speed ranking will also have a direct impact on SEO rankings and organic traffic to your site. This is because page speed is used as a ranking factor when measuring a quality user experience; a fast site speed will result in a better user experience and a slow site, a poorer one. A user will typically stay and engage on…

Where you one of the few that made use of Facebook moments? Did you find the app interesting and use it to share your photos on various networks? It sounds like your luck is unfortunately out as Facebook has announced on a CNET interview that it’s shutting down the Moments app on February 25th, partly because there weren’t enough people using it. With Moments, you could give your photos to friends, get their photos, and keep them all in a single private place.
