In some interesting news last month, latest research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has demonstrated that ‘blind spots’ in the artificial intelligence (AI) of self-driving cars could be adjusted and redressed using input from humans. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology team in collaboration with Microsoft, developed an ingenious model where AI learns any changes in behaviour it needs to make as it observes the human under the scenario. In order for this to be achieved, they make sure the AI system is put through simulation training before putting a human through the same scenario in the real world hence allowing it to pick up on visual and reactive signals by humans to accordingly amend its behaviour in similar circumstances. So far, the system has only been tested in video games but nonetheless study author (and  graduate student in MIT’s computer science and artificial intelligence lab) Ramya Ramakrishnan, said:…

Facebook introduced a ‘fan subscription feature’ which allows creators to share ‘exclusive’ contents with their fans with a membership fee. This allows creators to generate money straight from their follower/fans. Few years ago, Facebook have launched a group subscription feature which allows group admins to charge $4.99 to $29.99 per month for membership access. Unlike the earlier subscription feature which gained seemed to get some positive traction, Facebook’s fan subscription is meeting resistance from online creators. The feature is currently at its beta stage with creators taking 100% of the revenue, however, this will change once the feature is rolled out with the company taking out 30% from its subscription revenue. In addition, Facebook will hold the rights for all the contents created within the platform as stated in under the Supplemental clause within its terms and conditions. This was based from an information leaked to Tech Crunch. Following Facebook’s…

I am often asked, how and why I decided to start a blog, what advice I would give to new bloggers and how on earth I managed to amass over 7000 subscribers in less than 4 years! So you’re thinking about starting a blog, fashion, beauty, tech or whatever that may be but you have absolutely no idea where to start, right? Guess what—neither did I. I was totally and utterly clueless. When I conceptualized and started this blog a few years ago, I had no idea how to start a blog or how to be a blogger. Heck, I could hardly spell HTML, let alone build a blog. Nah, this is not a “put you down” or “glory, glory me” post, its…good news: it’s easier than you think. I have learned a ton of lessons (and still am daily) during my 4 years of blogging and running my…

Mobile banking has grown rapidly the last decade and it is now almost impossible to find a bank that does not offer it. There are actually even banks that only exist online and hence downloading their app is the only way to interact with them for any number of reasons you may wish to. The shift to “mobile banking” is a global phenomenon which has empowered many African countries but also the everyday users in the western world. You see, one would think that mobile phones are not the safest of devices. You carry them with you, you can lose them at any time. However, with modern data encryption and security techniques, it seems that mobile banking is safe. What is mobile banking? Mobile banking is a service provided by a bank or other financial institution that allows its customers to conduct financial transactions remotely using a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet. Unlike the related internet banking it uses software, usually…

It is indeed the news of the week when it comes to domains and how Brexit will slowly start having an effect on companies and individuals in the UK. If you are a UK sysadmin who owns a .EU domain, it will be taken away from you on 31st March 2019 in a no-deal Brexit scenario (and in any case, on 1st January 2021 if get a deal in place). According to the European Commission’s Notice to Stakeholders the only certainty is that UK entities will not be able to register or renew .eu domains. As for existing registrants, it merely states that the registry will be “entitled to revoke such domain names on its own initiative”. The brexit notice from EURid seems to suggest they’re just exploring the options at the moment. The European Commission issued a notice to stakeholders concerning the .eu domain names registered by UK residents. The notice…
