For those of you who thought Instagram was going to stop copying Snapchat features in 2018, here’s a surprise for you.
Now, Instagram is reportedly trying out a new app feature — one that has already been in existence in Snapchat — the feature that notifies a user when someone’s taken a screenshot or screen recording of your stories.
Tech news site WABetaInfo stated that Instagram is trying out this new feature, but only “in-house”. The tech website had earlier reported on Instagram testing a new word-focused tool called “Text” which can be used in the app’s stories section.
According to WABetaInfo, a unique icon will appear next to a person’s name if they take a screenshot or recording of your story. Sure, it is a replica of Snapchat’s exacts same, but at least it’ll help you find out who is stalking you and also being creepy about it. At least, it’ll notify you who to report or block.
Mashable reached out to Instagram to confirm this report, and a company spokesman told us it had “nothing to share at the moment.”
Judging from the fact that people are okay with this appealing feature on Snapchat, there’s a high probability that Instagram will ultimately roll out this same feature. Empowering users with the tools needed to help single out who’s harassing or potentially spying on them. This is a step in the right direction to reduce creepy social media activity. Users are entitled to feel safe when they post to the platform.
