In a move that will bring unbridled joy to social media managers and influencers everywhere, Instagram is now allowing business profiles to schedule posts, the company announced on its Business blog today. Currently, the feature only works for photos, not videos, and it’s only available through third-party social management tools for now. This means that if you want to get your hands on scheduling features, you have to pay for subscription services like HootSuite, Sprout Social, or any one of the companies working as a Facebook Marketing Partner or Instagram Partner

A new update to the Instagram API now allows corporations which make use of third-party software to manage their Instagram posts and stories will be able to schedule posts that will automatically go live at a scheduled time. This is a pretty important new feature that will easily improve said businesses reach a wider audience since Instagram’s mysterious algorithms tend to favor regular posting practices.

The “gotcha” with this new feature is that it is not available in the Instagram app itself and likely will never arrive directly – the creation of scheduled posts will only be available through a dedicated API that many third-party Instagram management services like Hootsuite and SocialFlow will be able to utilize.
Unfortunately, smaller businesses that don’t use such software will get left behind the larger corporations when it comes to scheduling Instagram posts and that’s the real gotcha with this novel API update.
