Social Media has truly taken the world over by storm. There were many that back in 2008 – having heard of the emergence of Social Media – were wondering, “Do I really need a page on Twitter and Facebook?..I’ll stick to one”. It was difficult to understand or foresee the growth of all social media and off course Twitter itself. How could 140 characters sufficiently promote your brand or services anyway?

Fast forward to today, Twitter has 100 million daily active users, 500 million tweets per day with 13 million of those users being in the UK. Still considering only having a Facebook page? I didn’t think so.

As social media is becoming more and more a part of our everyday lives, it is equally as important for businesses to be active players in a “field” most of their clients are part of. Some argue Twitter is even more important than Facebook when it comes to promoting your Company or Brand as it provides a platform to attract new customers, retain current ones and share news and updates. But it isn’t easy.

So let’s have a look at some useful tips you can use to grow your pages’ engagement and following. But always remember, it is better to have 2000 active followers that engage with your brand and have shown some sort of affinity than 20000 fake followers or simply random users.

I have listed as many as I can but please feel free to comment below if you can think of any others that should be added to the list.

Tip 1

Be consistent with your Tweets

Tip 2

Follow, share and engage with industry leaders in your field

Tip 3

Make correct use of Hashtags

Tip 4

Upload your LinkedIn and Email connections

Tip 5

Showcase you Skills & post Quality Content

Tip 6

Respond to people who interact with you

Tip 7

Tweet Inspiring quotes or sayings

Tip 8

Monitor your Twitter analytics

Tip 9

Don’t be afraid to join a Twitter chat

Tip 10

Host a Twitter event or Questions event

Tip 11

Add people to lists

Tip 12

Schedule Tweets via a Social Media Management system

Tip 13

Add your Twitter Username to your Business Card and promotional material

Tip 14

Host a Follower Contest or Giveaway

Tip 15

Install Twitter Buttons, Widgets and Apps on your Blog or Website

Tip 16

Respond to Tweets from Large accounts

Not all of the above will necessarily work for you but patience and consistency are key. Spend no more than half an hour daily on your Twitter account following the tips above and you will also see your engagement and followers grow at a steady rate.

Also, do not forget to activate your analytics so as to be able to follow the progress of your efforts and identify the demographics of your new audience. This will allow you to see which of your techniques is working best for you.
