“Influencer” – a word with a lot of confusion surrounding it! Social media has changed the relationship between brands and their fans dramatically. Today customers increasingly expect companies to quickly answer questions and queries via social networks such as Facebook or Twitter. What is more, it is now considered common practices for users to leave a review or complaint on TripAdvisor, Yell and recently Facebook reviews. An increase in hate speech, extremism, fake news and other content which violate the community standards has seen them strengthening policies, re-working algorithms and adding staff to curb the menace. In this article, we examine what works with algorithms and what doesn’t as relates to social moderation. Online platforms are plagued by inappropriate texts, images, and videos which somehow manage to slip through the cracks. In many cases, online media platforms respond by implementing smarter algorithms to help identify inappropriate content. Facebook has recently been making some significant changes with an aim of becoming a more evident, cross-platform player. It’s all down to a new capability that allows users to cross-post an Instagram story to their Facebook profile. Simply put, you can now send your videos to both platforms with a single post. As of yet the feature only works in one direction, Instagram to Facebook. However, Facebook has said it has ‘not ruled out’ a Facebook Story that can be cross-posted onto Instagram. This is an update that could potentially cause quite a stir on social media and have enormous implications and advantages for Business users. It will allow companies to make much better use of their Instagram stories by also promoting them on their Facebook page, an option previously not available.
