Starting your own business can be a daunting experience especially when you have never done so before and have limited funding or expertise in the industry. There are a number of factors that need to be carefully studied prior to any decision being made even at the initial stages of choosing a location. A good restaurant owner, will identify a niche in the market and attempt to exploit that niche to their best advantage whilst providing high quality. This is the tactic I have used with may of my clients who often approach me to identify suitable locations for their next ventures. A prime example would be Ginos Dial a Pizza which only started 3 years a go with 1 branch and has now expanded to 4 (on to the 5th by the end of the year with  the addition of Wolverhampton) but also Salathong, who were successful in Cambridge…

This is probably the most common social media “cheat” out there that many have already (incorrectly) made use of.  The market for buying fake followers has exploded in the past few years, and is now a multi-million dollar industry. And unfortunately, there is a real-world use case for fakes. I personally was contacted by an agency not that far from Cambridge, offering me a guaranteed 1000 (!!!!) likes and follows per month for 12 months. When I asked if they would be local and genuine users..I never got a response back. There are many different opinions as to the importance of likes but let’s be honest.. the number of followers and Likes a page or person has does make a perceptive difference. I am a strong believer in genuine likes (hence potential clients and advocates of your brand) and I will explain why further below. The problem is that buying fakes can hurt…

As I headed to the train station in Cambridge and on my way for my 1st day of helping at CFM Group as a Social Media and Digital Marketing intern, I was feeling just about every feeling there is to feel. Excitement, shyness, willingness to learn, apprehension, eagerness, uncertainty – they were all there, and that was just the tip of the emotional iceberg. I actually struggled sleeping the previous night..However, I was determined (and still am) to learn as much as I can about Digital Marketing in order to identify my strengths and weaknesses but also whether it is an industry I would like to work in, in the future. What is an internship? Simplified, it is an opportunity that companies offer students, in order for them to gain work experience in the field of their interest. I was often advised to take up an internship and also several times heard of…

It used to be that you only add the contacts that perhaps can offer you something in terms of employment or people you have worked but I strongly  advise my clients against that practice nowadays. LinkedIn is all about networking and one of its most powerful tools is the connections one is able to make with other professionals of a variety of industries as well as the relationship he maintains and builds with them through his posts, articles and other interaction. So one might argue, “ok then, I might as well add as many contacts as possible to maximise the views of my posts or content in general. The more the contacts I have, the more the likelihood of my articles being seen by a greater audience. Well, it is not exactly that simple. Having spent quite a significant time studying and analysing some of the documentation put out by…

I am not entirely certain why (or how) but I have ended up strangely reading more than 60 articles on Facebook this week which is more than 70% of my total article consumption. This was not a conscious choice as I went about reading my daily marketing news, technology and Social media updates but is a clear demonstration of how prevalent the platform has nowadays become in our everyday lives, hence also polarising interest in Digital Marketing circles online. I often come across Ads on my Social Media that genuinely are way too “adversarial” to have the desired effect. Maintaining a positive relationships between your audience and ads is crucial nowadays but equally quite difficult to achieve without the necessary knowledge and skills. Sponsored content on media sites and Ads on Social Platforms such as Facebook or Instagram,  are becoming more pervasive and increasingly harder to spot. While there has…

Facebook is officially starting production on on gaming shows and high quality TV shows to be broadcast on its platform, one of the social media giant’s executives as announced on Monday in a statement by Nick Grudin, Vice President of Media Partnerships for Facebook. The online platform, which currently is the most used Social Media platform with over two billion monthly users worldwide, is working on the project with a small group of partners and hopes to start putting out episodes of its forthcoming series by the end of the summer, as stated by Mr Grudin. “Our goal is to make Facebook a place where people can come together around video,” Grudin said, noting that Facebook and its collaborators would “experiment with the kinds of shows you can build a community around — from reality to gaming and sports to comedy.” Facebook is originally going to be funding its own shows but hoping…

What should you post? Where should you post it? Who should do the posting? How do you know if it’s working for your company? Social media marketing can be a great means of connecting with your potential customers as it allows you to portray your brand message, team spirit and unique personality and values in a fun, informative and engaging way that your website can never do. Nonetheless, managing your social media can also be expensive (to outsource), frustrating, confusing time consuming, costly to outsource and potentially damaging to your reputation. If you’re writing any kind of content – blogposts or articles – social media gives you a megaphone to amplify it, allowing you to reach huge numbers of people instantly. And even when you pay to distribute it, it’s still currently better value for money than any other advertising channel, bar none. However, managing your Social media shouldn’t be a chore but part…

As always, Facebook is constantly working on improving their platform and more importantly growing its revenue from their multiplicity of advertising options. Nonetheless, that constant evaluation of their platform also offer them insights as to the types of ads, promotions etc. that do not necessarily work as other. It is this research that has identified a variety of posts that Facebook believes are not as effective as they can be and are hence not permitting brands and companies to boost them any longer as they may have done in the past. Brands will no longer be able to convert Page posts like profile picture changes and place recommendations or profile pictures into ads any longer for example. Facebook announced, on Thursday the 24th of August, that it is curtailing the types of organic posts that Pages can convert into ads as it looks as they aim to make their ads more precise and…
