Google AdWords is a pay-per-click advertising service which allows you to advertise in Google’s search results. It has the huge benefit of allowing you to reach people at the exact moment they are searching for something.

Organic traffic and SEO (Search Optimisation) can sometimes put you in front of the right people at the right time, but it’s not always that easy and nobody can really guarantee the results you wish. You might be on the first page one day, and then vanish the next. To be honest, you will probably struggle to get on the 1st page in the first place and even 1 day would be a success. Not in terms of actual results and leads though.

Advertising with AdWords on the other hands can and will put you on the first page instantly if done correctly. It’s a unique way to reach your customers and can easily generate sales and leads but nonetheless is not so easy to master and can take some time to.

So let’s have a look at some easy and affordable ways of learning how to perform your own SEO to a good standard with some very useful resources out there.

  • Google AdWords training & certification

Google’s own learning resources for AdWords are a very good (and free) starting point. The training is broken down into sections and you can dip in and out as necessary. There are also some very great videos that can really help and if you are not one to be going through pages and pages of text. The Google AdWords certification is a professional accreditation that Google offers to individuals who demonstrate proficiency in basic and advanced aspects of AdWords. An AdWords certification allows individuals to demonstrate that Google recognises them as an expert in online advertising.

  • Wordstream PPC University

WordStream primarily offer software and managed services to help you get the most from your AdWords advertising. But they also have a very good (and free) AdWords training resource – PPC University. This is a series of self-select training modules that you can work through at your own pace, choosing what you want to learn.

It’s a bit lighter and more engaging than Google’s own training. It also has some useful tips based on Wordstream’s experience in managing hundreds of AdWords campaigns.

There are obviously many other ways of enriching your SEO and Google AdWords knowledge pool, but having researched many of them, I have come to the conclusion that the above are the most beneficial, time effective and easy for early users. In addition, as you will notice some are free and some are paid for but the cost is fairly affordable for any small business or starter which is why I consciously made the choice of the above 3.
