The days when Instagram was simply considered a photography or kids app are long gone. Instagram has by far outgrown anyone’s expectations and is now considered a crucial part of any Brand or Company’s Social Media strategy. Companies and Brands quickly realised the opportunities available via the Social Media platform and have jumped on for the exciting ride.

So far Instagram has shown a tremendous growth – as I also spoke about on the 26th of April in my post “Instagram Facts & Stats for 2017” – hence quickly becoming one of the largest networking, content marketing, engagement and audience building tools for brands and individuals worldwide. It’s currently undoubtedly the most popular social networking platform globally, with over 300 million daily users, sharing 95 million photos and videos per day. What is more important however, is the engagement brands and companies achieve on Instagram which can be up to 120 times more than Twitter whilst Brands earn 58 times more organic engagement that Facebook.

So let’s have a look at 5 simple ways we use at our company both for our as well as our clients’ profiles and that we have seen to work effectively for them. Remember, effective Instagram management is not only getting new followers but making sure they are potential (or current customers or fans) with an end goal of increase sales and revenue.

  1. Complete your Bio

At first, it is crucial you have a complete bio informing your potential followers of who you are and what they can expect to see on your profile. Offer links to your latest content to attract engagement and make sure to update it regularly.

2. Make Correct use of Hashtags

There are a number of ways you can use Hashtags to grow your following. At first, make use of hashtags such as #FF (Follow Friday), #instafollow, #l4l (Like for like), #tagforlikes and #followback that are known to  help increase followers.  In addition, promote a specific (no more than 2) hashtags that represents your Brand or Company and be consistent with it throughout your social media profiles, blog posts or email marketing campaigns.

Always make sure to search trending hashtags for the day too as that could potentially bring interest from users you may not have attracted otherwise and don’t be afraid to get creative. Experimenting can teach you a lot about your audience and content.

3. Engage with other users

This does not necessarily mean to engage only with users that follow you or you are aware of as celebrities. It is obviously important to interact with your followers and industry leaders (liking, commenting and sharing is a good way) but is also as important to engage with random users that simply operate in the same industry as you or are part of your target audience. Do not be afraid to like and comment on as many images as you can as this will attract more and more clicks to your profile and hence potentially followers.

4. Be Consistent

When posting on Instagram, it is very easy to drift off “course” and simply post random pictures or content you like. However, do remember that it was initially created as a photography app and hence people will always expect high quality images. In addition, try and create your own style, unique and incomparable to others in your sector. Once you are able to identify a specific style that fits your Brand image, stick with it and make it happen.

5. Use your Social Media

Instagram itself is a Social Media platform and hence it is crucial you keep all your social “outlets” consistent. In addition, each one can be used to promote the other and hence don’t be afraid to also promote your Instagram on your other social media accounts and profiles. Inform people of what you tend to post and help them get a feel of what to expect when they follow your profile. You have already built a steady stream of followers on some of your profiles so make use of them to also grow your Instagram. Consider boosting the posts or tweets with paid advertising to ensure that more of your followers (and not only) see your update and head to your account to Follow.

These are just 5 of the ways I have found to work exceptionally well for both my company and clients’ profiles.
